We THINK as ONE, PLAN as ONE, ACT as ONE, and ACHIEVE as All-in-ONE

Achievements so far:

Successes of the One UN approach to date include a cost-effective mobile phone contract covering all organizations, the creation of the One UN website, the sharing of ICT LTAs and training, the reduction of monthly Internet fees in common premises in Gaza, agreement on eight common official holidays for all organizations and the removal of policy inconsistencies between organizations relating to the recruitment of relatives of staff members.

Of even greater significance is the fact that the different UN organizations that previously had little or no contact with each other have now been brought together to understand the work of other agencies, meet their staff and identify common needs and goals. Over the past year, communication has expanded in correlation with the forging of inter-agency relationships and the foundations are now in place to move forward at a quicker pace in 2016.

Despite the difficulties inherent in coordinating a large number of agencies with disparate needs, plus some inevitable scepticism in the face of change, participants in the initiative have demonstrated enthusiasm and acknowledge that the harmonization of a common framework of consistent rules and policies delivered as One UN Operations is an imperative that will reduce duplication of work and costs, enhance efficiency through the optimal use of available assets and expertise and ultimately lead to a more cohesive system that will benefit all UN organizations in oPt.

In the long term, the operational work on policy coherence and the building of an unprecedented culture of collaboration will enable the UN system as a whole to be more responsive to the considerable challenges faced on the ground.
